This is a newly created position that will be responsible for undertaking academic-related engagement, marketing, and communications roles for the IHR. You will act as the web editor for the IHR website as well as manage and develop the Institute’s blogs and social media profiles. In addition you will play a key role in the development of the Institute’s public engagement strategy and lead on the promotion of major IHR research projects and publications, including British History Online and the online Bibliography of British and Irish History.
In relation to the equipment or technology used for navigating, the ancient explorers used the heavenly bodies like the stars (Hodges 183). This was until the Chinese people invented the compass that was more effective. The ships were also built the broad pointed bottom to support the ship. The cabin was also constructed too as waterproof and in isolation. The ship was fairly stable and easily changed directions. In the ancient times, Ibn Battuta and Marco polo used fire for cooking and smoking for preservation. They also used herbs for medicinal purposes. There were people who were herbalists by profession a good example, are the Chinese herbalist called shen nong (Snodgrass 148). Since Ibn Battuta and Marco polo travelled to china severally, it would be right to assume that they relied on herbs for medicine. Although there is the use of herbs to date in several parts of the world, there are modern synthetic drugs that are used to cure diseases.
